Ashwarya, Sharmada make first-round exits

Mumbai: Israel`s sixth seed Deniz Khazaniuk enjoyed a comfortable passage to the second round of the USD 10,000 CCI ITF women`s tennis circuit on Monday as she tamed Indian wild card Ashwarya Shrivastava in straight sets.

The Israeli player, ranked 471th in the world, outclassed her Indian rival 6-1 6-3 in a first round singles match at the Cricket Club of India courts.

Sharmada Balu was another Indian to make a first round exit going down to China’s Zi Yang in straight sets.
