Melbourne: In yet another thrilling encounter, Roger Federer defeated Jo Wilfried Tsonga 7-6 (7-4) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 3-6 6-3 in the quarter-final of the Australian Open 2013 at Melbourne Park.

The Frenchman gave the Swiss a tough fight in the five-setter and managed to lose concentration only in the fifth set which was comprehensively won by Federer.

Tsonga saved four match points while Federer was leading 5-2 in the fifth and final set and the eighth game lasted for almost 8 minutes.

Federer will now play with Andy Murray in the semis as the Briton dismissed unseeded Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 6-4 6-1 6-2 to reach the Australian Open semi-finals for the fourth year in a row on Wednesday.
