Sydney: Swiss tennis great Roger Federer believes world number one Novak Djokovic has been the best hard court player in the past couple of years, and he tipped the Serb to win this year’s Australian Open.
Djokovic can join Federer and Andre Agassi as the only men to win four Australian Open titles after thwarting Federer`s own quest for a historic three in a row in the 2008 semi-finals and then downing Jo-Wilfried Tsonga to claim his maiden major in Melbourne, the Age reports.
Five years on and the second-ranked Federer hope to turn the tables, but feels Djokovic remains the man to beat.
Federer said Olympic gold medallist and the US Open champion Andy Murray is also playing great and only going to get stronger in the next couple of years. Federer said it was unfortunate that Rafael Nadal was not playing in the Australian Open.
