London: Serena Williams believes his training partner, Jeremy Chardy can stun world number three Andy Murray in the quarterfinals of the Australian Open on Wednesday.
Murray`s next French rival has reached his first Grand Slam quarterfinal with the help of Serena. Chardy trained with the American superstar in Mauritius last month on his way to the Australian Open, and the world No 36, who knocked out Juan Martin Del Potro in the third round, is now taking advantage of playing with the winner of 15 Grand Slams. Serena said she is really happy for Chardy, adding they both practiced together and have now reached the quarters. Serena said she is the obvious reason why Chardy is doing so well in the Australian Open, adding practicing together has helped the Frenchman develop as a player. Murray, who beat an exhausted Gilles Simon in three simple sets on Monday, has now won his last 16 matches in Grand Slams against Frenchmen. But Chardy beat the Scot in their last meeting in the Cincinnati Masters last August and Williams reckons the last unseeded man left can stop the semi-final showdown between Murray and Roger Federer. Serena said Chardy could do well as he has such a big serve and such a big forehand, adding she is a big Murray fan. Serena added Murray is an awesome guy because he`s running everything down, but added if Chardy could hang in there during the game then he holds a good chance of succeeding. ANI
