Leander Paes, Martina Hingis bag Australian Open mixed doubles crown

Tennis veterans Leander Paes and Martina Hingis added one more Grand Slam to their glorifying kitty after winning the mixed doubles title of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Sunday. The duo beat the pair of Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets.

New Delhi: Tennis veterans Leander Paes and Martina Hingis added one more Grand Slam to their glorifying kitty after winning the mixed doubles title of the Australian Open in Melbourne on Sunday. The duo beat the pair of Daniel Nestor and Kristina Mladenovic 6-4, 6-3 in straight sets.

Daniel Nestor stated how the Australian Open is a great event to come to and his partner Mladenovic lauded Hingis and Paes for their victory. Australian Open's Twitter feed posted the post match statement.

Meanwhile, Hingis stated that not even in her wildest dreams she dreamt of winning a Slam here in Melbourne after 20 years.

Paes also acknowledged the Australian Open stating it is the best Grand Slam they play.

This was Paes' eighth mixed doubles Slam victory and an overall 15th in his career including eight doubles titles as well. For Hingis, it was her 16th Slam. It was her second mixed doubles crown.

The legendary tennis players have once again showed age isn't the factor when there is grit and determination to win on the biggest stage.
