London: Americans Mike and Bob Bryan maintained their hopes of ending the year as the world`s top ranked doubles team when they beat Leander Paes and Lukas Dlouhy 6-3, 6-4 at the ATP World Tour Finals on Wednesday.
Two days after losing their opening round-robin match, the twins finally opened their account at the O2 Arena by overcoming the challenge of fourth seeds Paes and Dlouhy, who failed to earn a single break point during the 52-minute demolition. The Indo-Czech pair were rooted to the bottom of Group B after losing their first two matches. "It was a bit of a rough outing in the last two matches," said Paes, who claimed the French and US Open titles this year with Dlouhy. "It`s a bit interesting because we won two grand slams this year, then the last two days we`ve been pretty much off rhythm."On Wednesday, the Bryans smashed the ball high into the stands on match point before leaping into the air to celebrate with their customary chest bump. Lukasz Kubot and Oliver Marach top the group with a 2-0 record and will face the Bryans on Friday in their final group showdown. Bureau Report
