Daniel Nestor, Max Mirnyi into Wimbledon Rd 2

Wimbledon: Toronto`s Daniel Nestor and Belarus partner Max Mirnyi won a first-round Wimbledon match delayed a day by rain Friday, defeating Czech Leos Friedl and American David Martin 6-4, 6-4.

The match was abbreviated from the usual best-of-five sets for men to a best-of-three as organizers struggled to get the weather-plagued tournament back on schedule.

But Vancouver`s Rebecca Marino and Turkish partner Ipek Senoglu were beaten in their opening match by South Africa`s Natalie Grandin and Vladmira Uhlirova of the Czech Republic 6-3, 6-2, 6-2.

The score was the same when the two pairs met in the first round of the French Open a month ago.

The 38-year-old Nestor won Wimbledon in 2008 and 2009 with Serbian Nenad Zimonjic.

Nestor and Mirnyi, who joined forces at the start of the 2011 season. won the French Open title earlier this month.

They needed just one break per set to advance to the second round, where they play Austrian Julien Knowle and South African Kevin Anderson.

Nestor missed on a match point opportunity in the penultimate game as he hit a return wide. But the second seeds finished the job a game later on the first of three more match points when the Czech-American team sent a return long over the baseline.
