French Open 2012: Rafael Nadal vs David Ferrer – As it happened…Zeenews Sports Bureau

Paris: Defending Champion Rafael Nadal defeated David Ferrer 6-2, 6-2, 6-1 to storm into the final of French Open 2012.

Nadal to serve. He wins the game with a great backhand and leads 5-1. Ferrer could win just one game in that point.

Ferrer played ‘some’ competitive tennis for this game, of no use, as he made a double fault to lose it. Nadal leads 4-1.

Nadal leads 3-1. He is three games away from the final.

Ferrer has won his fourth game. Nadal leads 2-1 in the third set.

Rafa has won the second game and he leads 2-0. He is set for an early finish here.

Nadal has begun the third set on a confident note as Ferrer once again failed to hold onto his serve. Nadal leads 1-0.

Nadal has won the second set and he is yet to lose a set in French Open 2012. Rafa leads 6-2, 6-2.

Ferrer has just managed to win the fourth game of the match but he is still trailing 2-5 in the second set. Nadal leads 6-2, 5-2.

Play resumes, Nadal to serve.

The covers have finally been removed and the game shall begin anytime.

Some good news! The water is being removed from the covers and the play is likely to resume in a while.

Covers have come up and the match has witnessed a short delay for the time being! Nadal leads 4-1

After losing the first set, Ferrer changed his shirt but even that could not change his fortunes. Ferrer won the first game point and Nadal won the second. Nadal broke Ferrer’s serve once again. In this third game, Nadal fell on the ground, yet managed to execute a perfect shot, and he won the game!

Defending champion Rafael Nadal wins the first set (6-2) against fellow Spaniard David Ferrer in the semi-final of French Open 2012.

Ferrer led 2-1 in the first set after which Nadal held on to his serve to equalize scores. Nadal broke Ferrer’s serve in the fourth point to lead 3-2. Nadal also won the next point and extended his lead to 4-2. Nadal once again broke Ferrer’s serve in seventh game as in which Ferrer also made a double fault. Lead was extended to 5-2 in which Ferrer couldn’t win a single game.

Ferrer tried to play aggressively in the set point as he often came up to the nets, but could not match with Nadal’s backhand. Nadal easily won the first set in 39 minutes as Ferrer failed to put any fight.

Nadal is likely on his way to win his seventh French Open title.

Nadal is 50-1 at Roland Garros, and the only time he lost was in the fourth round in 2009 against Robin Soderling. As per another record, Nadal has won all the 15 sets he has played at the Roland Garros this year in Paris.
