Paris: Top seeded Russian Maria Sharpaova came from a set behind to seal a semi-final spot after defeating Jelena Jankovic 0-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Wednesday.
The defending champion was blanked by the Serbian in the opening set but the Russian clawed back to book a date with Victoria Azarenka in the last-four.
"She played such a great match from the beginning and was very aggressive. I knew after the first set that I had to change things around. I just had to erase the chapter and move forward. I still felt I was in the match and I broke her in the first game (of the second),” Sharapova was quoted as saying in media reports after the match.
Azarenka defeated Maria Kirilenko of Russia, 7-6 (7/3), 6-2 to enter the semi-final at Roland Garros for the first time in her career.
"..I am really happy to get through to my first semi-final in Paris at the third time of asking," Azarenka said after the match.
Sharapova and Azarenka have faced each other 12 times with the latter leading 7-5.
