New Delhi: The atmosphere inside Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Saturday was electrifying as tennis fans from across the world had gathered to watch their favorite stars play.
While most of them waved flags of Indian Aces, needless to say, the majority had come just to watch Roger Federer.
It was a big blow to most of them, as they weren’t aware of the schedule and that the Swiss maestro was supposed to play only from the second day onwards.
On Day 1, the fans thronged the stadium anticipating 17-time Grand Slam winner to grace the court and play live in front of their eyes.
But as Indian Aces players reached the court and were welcomed by a rousing reception, one question which could be frequently heard from the stands was – “Where is Roger Federer?”
While the crowd cheered for Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna, it was too much to bear for one of the Federer fans who screamed from the stands – “Federer…where is Roger yaar!”
Amitesh, one such Federer fan who travelled from Kochi just to see a glimpse of the legend expressed his disappointment.
“Me and my friends have come all the way just to watch Federer play. It’s a big disappointment that he won’t be playing today. But we are here for two more days and hopefully, we will get to see him play tomorrow.”
“I am not so fond of tennis, I am fond of Roger Federer! We all love him and I can’t wait for tomorrow where my dream to watch him play live will come true,” said Shilpa, another Federer fan.
The fans will finally get to see Federer play on Day 2 of the tournament, where the legend will take on Tomas Berdych (Singapore Slammers) in the first match.
