Mumbai: Third seed Aditya Madkekar of Maharashtra ousted top seed Yannick Nelord of Delhi in three
sets to enter the men`s singles final of the Rs 2.6-lakh prize

The 24-year-old Madkekar, who carved out a 6-2 4-6 6-1
win over Nelord in the semifinal, will clash with his doubles
partner and eighth seed Saurav Sukul of Bengal in the final
Sukul, 25, got the better of another Maharashtra player,
sixth seed Ronak Manuja, 6-7 (4) 6-4 6-2 in the other
semifinal that lasted for an over three hours in hot, sultry
Madkekar, five rungs below Nelord who is ranked 13th in
the country, showed good control and consistency in his ground
strokes against his rival who relied on his punchy forehand.
Madkekar ran down every ball and patiently waited for the
short ball to hammer out winners. He broke Nelord in the sixth
game for a 4-2 lead, and broke his rival`s serve again in the
eighth to win the opening set.
Nelord got steadier in both his serves and ground strokes
to take the second set with a service break in the fifth game.
Madkekar recovered his poise in the decider and got an
early break of serve to go 2-0 up and broke again to take a
commanding 5-1 lead before clinching the set and the match.
