Rafael Nadal smashes David Ferrer for Mexican Open titleZeenews Sports Bureau

Acapulco: Rafael Nadal showed glimpses of his dominant form as he blazed past David Ferrer to clinch the Mexican Open title in straight sets, 6-0 6-2.

Playing his third tournament in four weeks since returning from a major knee injury that had seen his sidelined since mid-2012, Nadal played some of his best tennis yet in the toughest test he has been subjected to since his comeback.

Top seed and world number 4 David Ferrer never really got into the game as the King of Clay broke early and kept the momentum going through the entire match to clinch his 38th clay court title. The surprisingly one-sided affair also ended Ferrer’s 19 game unbeaten streak at the Acapulco event.

Having finished as runner-up at the Chile Open, following it up by winning the Brazil Open, Nadal’s comeback has been restricted to the American continent. Next up, he is scheduled to play on the hard court Masters Series events at Indian Wells and Miami, further north.
