Sharapova, Kvitova advance to French Open second round

Paris: Maria Sharapova won all 12 games in the first round of the French Open which was a perfect start for her in the tournament.

Sharapova defeated Alexandra Cadantu of Romania 6-0, 6-0 on Tuesday in a match that lasted just 48 minutes.

The Russian is looking to complete a career Grand Slam by winning the title at Roland Garros.

Earlier in the day, Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova also defeated junior Wimbledon champion Ashleigh Barty in straight sets 6-1, 6-2.

Kvitova lost the opening game, but then did extremely well to win six straight points in the first set against the 16-year-old Australian and easily sealed the second set despite being broken once.
