Tianjin (China): Snapping her three-match losing streak, India`s number one woman singles player Ankita Raina made a stupendous start to her campaign at USD 25,000 ITF event here with a resounding win over China`s Yan Wang, on Wednesday.
Ankita, ranked 288, trounced the lower-ranked local girl 6-1 6-1 in her opening match of the hard court tournament at the Tianjin International Tennis Center.
It was Ankita`s first singles win after three consecutive first round defeats, the last two coming in USD 50,000 events.
Ankita also made the doubles semi-finals with partner from Oman Fatma Al Nabhani. They shocked second seeds Jessica Moore and Aleksandrina Naydenova 6-4 6-2.
In the singles contest against Yan, Ankita was dominating all through, letting the Chinese girl hold her serve only once in each set.
Yan held serve in the first game of the match and then in the second game of the second set.
The Indian next faces another Chinese challenge in Yuxuan Zhang, who is ranked 399.
"In China, ranking does not matter much. But the way I played both my matches, I am very confident," Ankita said, beaming with confidence.
In the doubles, they will fight it out with fourth seeds Wen-Hsin Hsu from Taipei and Chen Liang from China.
