Somdev takes Baghdatis to three sets in Dubai

Dubai: India`s Somdev Devvarman went down fighting 3-6, 6-3, 1-6 to World No. 37 Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis in the second round of the Dubai Tennis Championships here on Wednesday.

Baghdatis, who over came Frenchman Simon Gilles in the first round with an upset stomach, had a tough time against Somdev.

The Indian had his chances when he forced 13 breakpoints, but could convert only two with the Cypriot saving the rest to win in one hour and 45 minutes.

The 143-ranked Indian, who qualified for the main draw, will now join the Davis Cup squad to play the World Group tie against Russia in Moscow next week.
