Hyderabad: The chief ministers of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on Friday congratulated tennis star Sania Mirza for being selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, the country's highest sporting honour.
The union sports ministry on Friday confirmed that Sania Mirza will be awarded the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna.
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao congratulated the Hyderabadi, who is also the brand ambassador of the newly created state. In a statement, he hoped that she will bring more laurels to the country and bag more awards.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also congratulated Sania Mirza, the Wimbledon doubles champion.
"Hearty congratulations @MirzaSania for being selected for the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award. Wish you the best for future," tweeted Naidu.
Chandrasekhar Rao also congratulated roller skater Anup Yama for being selected for the Arjuna award.
Anup is among 17 sportspersons selected for the Arjuna award.
