US Open: Roger Federer eyes sixth title
World No. 1 Roger Federer will start his bid for a sixth US Open title as he kicks off his campaign against American Donald Young on Monday.
The Swiss has been in great form this year where he defeated Britain No. 1 Andy Murray to win a Grand Slam after a gap of over two years at the 2012 Wimbledon final and he also retained the No. 1 ranking.
Federer won five back-to-back titles at the US Open from 2004 to 2008. In 2009, 20-year-old Juan Martin del Potro of Argentina fought back from a set down to defeat Federer 3-6 7-6 (7-5) 4-6 7-6 (7-4) 6-2.
After winning his seventh Wimbledon title, Federer didn’t look in the best of form at London Olympics and he would like to start afresh at the last Grand Slam of the year.
Britain’s Andy Murray will also be in action on the opening day at the US Open as he will lock horns with Russian Alex Bogomolov Jr.
