Roger Federer’s US Open exit sends shock waves across Twitter

New York: Roger Federer’s shocking fourth round defeat by Spaniard Tommy Robredo in US Open 2013 left his fans grieved. Most of them resorted to micro blogging site Twitter to express their pain and anguish over the Swiss maestro’s defeat.

Here’s what the Twitterati had to say about the champion:

Popular Twitter celebrity Ramesh Srivats tweeted, “I have this nagging suspicion That shortly after the India vs WI test series, Shall we see the retirement of a legend - Roger Federer. (sic)”

Commentator Alan Wilkins also did not hide his disappointment. He tweeted, “Have we seen the last of Roger Federer ? The Great Man beaten in straight sets in the 4th Round by Spain`s Tommy Robredo. (sic)”

The fans worldwide were also emotional as they flooded Twitter with their mixed emotions.

“I hate to see Roger Federer Struggles. I`m a big fan! (sic),” tweeted a fan. Another tweet mentioned “They say the darker nights after the sun rises brighter, so it will be, I love you and always with you! @rogerfederer (sic).”

Another fan said,” Hopefully Roger quickly forgets this loss (I`m so over it) and moves on and keeps believing. Roger @ rogerfederer Champ, do not lose faith! (sic).”

“so sad to see @rogerfederer Gradually fall in the power rankings .. so dominant for so long. Tennis is not the same without him in top 3-4. (sic),” tweeted a disappointed fan.

“Roger federer is a legend and I Has not lost it yet there is still fight in him. (sic),” stated another tweet while keeping faith on the legend alive a fan tweeted, “Is sad to see @ rogerfederer `s form dropping day by day. Is ok, I still have faith on him. He`s still the best to me (y). (sic)”

A fan even warned people not to write Federer off. “@usopen #OpenNightShift I think #Federer has one more slam in him. People are quick to write players off, just like @RafaelNadal post wimby. (sic),” stated his tweet.

Federer was ousted by Robredo in straight sets 7-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday. His slumping form has been a matter of discussion for a long time, and now debates over his retirement have triggered.

Following his defeat, Federer blamed his inconsistency, lack of confidence for his disappointing show. "I kind of self-destructed, which is very disappointing."

Robredo and Federer have come face to face on ten previous occasions with the latter emerging victorious in each of those encounters. However, the 11th clash between the two came at a time when the Swiss master is at the worst phase of his tennis career.
