Billie Jean King`s win in `Battle of the Sexes` rigged by mafia?
New York: Tennis great Billie Jean King`s win in the ` Battle of the Sexes` 40 years ago, may have been manipulated by the mafia, according to new reports.
According to The New York Daily News, more than 50 million Americans tuned in on Sept. 20, 1973, to watch the top-ranked King take on retired champ Riggs, in what is the most viewed U.S. tennis match of all time and a high point of feminist history.
However, King said there was no truth to the claim and she could see that her opponent wanted to win the match.
The female player`s victory had netted her 100,000 dollars in prize money and bragging rights for women`s pay across tournaments, the report said.
