This is the 12th US Open final in the Open Era with the top two seeds meeting and the No. 2 seed has won six of the previous 11 meetings. Djokovic and Rafa will play their 37th match against each other and their sixth Grand Slam final. Rafa has an edge over Djokovic 22-15.
The winner of the match will earn a second US Open title and become the ninth player in the Open Era with at least two titles. Djokovic is appearing in his third major final of the season for the third consecutive year. It is Serb’s fourth straight US Open final and fifth overall. He is the first player to reach four finals in a row here since Roger Federer (2004-09).
While Nadal’s run till the semis was relatively easier, Nole had to battle past Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka in a four hour long duel in the semi-final. Nadal is yet to break his serve in the tournament and has a 22-0 win record in the hard courts.
Nonetheless, the viewers can definitely expect high drama at the Flushing Meadows, as both the champions slog it out till the end for a win.
