New Delhi: Five-time Grand Slam champion Maria Sharapova on Monday stunned the tennis world, announcing that she had failed a drugs test at the Australian Open.

Sharapova received a letter from the International Tennis Foundation several days ago informing her that she had failed the test for a substance that had been legal until January 1, 2016.

The former Wimbledon champion told a press conference that the substance she had been taking throughout her career only appeared on WADA's banned list this year. (With Agency inputs)
