London: In an all-Swiss quarterfinal at Wimbledon 2014, 17-time Grand Slam champion Roger Federer defeated compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka in four sets.

FOURTH SET: Federer won 6-4

Federer to serve for the match.

Federer survived five duece points to book his semi-final spot. He fought for every point as Wawrinka was in mood to concede easy points. The deciding game started with Wawrinka producing a forehand cross-court winner. Federer won the next point with his own cross-court winner, which was followed up with a forehand winner. Wawrinka restored parity with another forehand cross-court winner. With a good serve, it looked like Federer cruising but Wawrinka forced played exceptional tennis to force the game into duece, in all five times.

But, Federer wrapped up the game set match with a forehand down the line winner off a weak return from Wawrinka.

FOURTH SET: Federer leads 5-4

Wawrinka to serve.

Needing to hold the game to stay in the match, Wawrinka produced one of the better service games in the fourth set. He won in comfortably, conceding only a point to Roger.

FOURTH SET: Federer leads 5-3

Federer to serve.

Federer inched closer to booking yet another semi-spot in the Wimbeldon. He hold the game after surviving a break point. Wawrinka did try his best to break the multiple Wimbledon winner, but his efforts came short.

FOURTH SET: Federer leads 4-3

Wawrinka to serve.

Comfortable hold for Wawrinka to keep the match alive. After conceding the first point to his opponent, Wawrinka won the game with four points on the trot.

FOURTH SET: Federer leads 4-2

Federer to serve.

Federer hold with a comprehensive display of strong service game. Three good serves in the beginning set the tone for a game to love win, but Stan won the fourth game with a cross-court winner. However, his fightback was cut short with a forced error, netting the ball.

Wawrinka to serve.

Wawrinka hold his service game for the second time in the set to give himself a chance to stay in the match. After starting the game with a strong service, Wawrinka was forced to dug deep in the game as Federer continued to play brilliant tennis. Wawrinka finally won the game after surviving a duece, thanks to two great serves.

FOURTH SET: Federer leads 3-1

Federer to serve.

Roger Federer consolidated the break with a fighting win. He started the game with an Ace. Followed it up with forehand winner down the line. After a brief struggle with his service, won the third point forcing an error to Wawrinka, who netted the ball. Then Stan won the next two points following two extended rallies.

But Roger won the game as Wawrinka sprayed his return following a rally wide of the court.

Federer broke Wawrinka again. The Australian Open champion failed to play his usual game as Federer continued to dominate through heavy groundstrokes. The game witnessed Federer making his backhand returns to great effect.

Wawrinka to serve.

Great way to start a new set. Wawrinka won it on love. He started the game with a fighting, winning with a backhand volley. For the second point, he forced Roger to commit an error in playing a back-hand cross-court. Two good serves, including an Ace, settled the issue in Wawrinka's favour.

Federer to serve.

It's two set to one for the Maestro. Yet another comfortable win for Roger. He started with an Ace, followed it up three back-to-back points after allowing Wawrinka to win a point.

THIRD SET: Federer leads 5-3

Federer to serve.

Federer consolidated the break with a comfortable game. He won the eighth game on love with his serves falling in the right areas and testing Wawrinka's resolute in the process.

THIRD SET: Federer leads 4-3

Wawrinka to serve.

First break of serve. Federer produced his vintage form to break Wawrinka in the crucial seventh game. Wawrinka had troubled producing his usual good serves and could managed to win only one point in the game.

THIRD SET: Scores level 3-3

Federer to serve.

Mighty escape for Roger. Wawrinka fought for each point, winning the second and the third points from a forehand and backhand winners. But Federer won the next three points thanks to his good serves to level the score 3-3.

THIRD SET: Wawrinak leads 3-2

The third set in on serve. Wawrinka, looking unperturbed despite losing two games in no time to Roger, won the game on love. Started the game with winners from a swift serves in the centre, then followed it up with an Ace. For the fifth point, a classic serve and volley was on displayed from the big Stan.

Federer to serve.

Another sizzling service game from Roger. Wawrinka tried to make a fight out of it with the second point of the game, winning it with a Roger backhand error. But Roger produced three back-to-back serves, including an Ace to wrap up the game in no time.

Wawrinka struggled to hold his serve. Survived duece twice, as Federer raced to 40-15 but three good serves towards the end helped him win the game.

Federer to serve.

The Swiss maestro responded with a great service game, winning it on love. Federer lined up his serves towards Wawrinka's backhand, considerably a tricky choice. But it worked wonders this times as in the following rallies Federer managed to forced errors on his compatriot.

Wawrinka to serve.

A quick game from the Australian Open winner. Produced great serves to wrest first game of the crucial third set from Federer.

Started the game with an unforced error as he tried backhand winner. But soon, thanks to his booming services, won the game in another four serves.

Roger Federer won the second ser tie-breaker 7-5 to get himself into the match.

Wawrinka to serve. The second set is heading for a tie-breaker, with Roger giving his compatriot a good fight so far.

Wawrinka started with a let. A wide served force a soft return from Roger. After couple of rallies, Warwrinka won the first point. Wawrinka followed it up with a winner. Then, forced Roger to commit an unexpected error, which was followed up by a good serve.

Roger won the next point with a fabulous down the line backhand, 15-30. Wawrinka won the next point as Roger's backhand this time landed long, 30-30. Wawrinka won the next point as he made Roger run to his left and the return was high and wide, 40-30. Wawrinka seals the game with a good serve!

Federer has been playing some of the best tennis we have seen him play this year and experts believe this is his best chance to win an eighth Wimbledon title. Federer is back to the serve and volley game and it would be interesting to see whether it can work against Wawrinka.

Wawrinka on the other hand had a great Australian Open post which he couldn't continue his magic at the French Open. What would be intersting to see in this game would be the one-handed backhands from both the players.
