Youzhny beats Golubev to win Malaysian Open
Kuala Lumpur: Russia`s Mikhail Youzhny overcame a slow start to defeat Kazakhstan`s Andrey Golubev 6-7, 6-2, 7-6 to win the Malaysian Open.
It was Youzhny`s seventh career title and his second of the year and has whetted his appetite for more.
"It`s a good result but all the time when you have some (good) results, you want more. So now of course I don`t want to stop. I want more," the fourth seed told reporters after a tense match which lasted just over two and a half hours.
Youzhny struggled initially to keep pace with world number 41 Golubev, who beat top seed Robin Soderling in the quarter-finals, and went a set down before fighting back.
"He is a very good player and I think he is going to improve more and more, year by year," Youzhny said of 23-year-old eighth seed Golubev. "He is still young and he has really good results."
