USA Track and Field submitted its official bid to host the 2019 athletics World Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the federation said Thursday.

The United States has never hosted the IAAF`s premier event, which was first contested in Helsinki in 1983. Eugene was announced in April by the IAAF along with Doha and Barcelona as a host candidate for 2019.

In a statement, the USATF said it had submitted a bid in conjunction with TrackTown USA -- which served as local organizing committee for the 2014 IAAF World Junior Championships at Eugene`s Hayward Field and is also the local organizing committee for next year`s World Indoor Championships in Portland, Oregon, which is about 100 miles (167km) north of Eugene.

Eugene hosted the 2008 and 2012 US Olympic team athletics trials at Hayward Field and is slated to do so again in 2016.

Hayward Field is also the site of the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meeting.

The IAAF Evaluation Commission is scheduled to visit the bid cities in October and the IAAF Council is to name the 2019 venue in Monaco on November 18, after presentations from each candidate city.
