Zimonjic's presence assuring for young Serbian players

Bangalore: Serbia's young singles players Dusan Lajovic and Filip Krajinovic on Tuesday said presence of Nenad Zimonjic was assuring for them as the doubles legend has always guided them well in handling tough Davis Cup conditions.

Lajovic and Krajinovic are better-ranked players than the Indians as they prepare to take on Somdev Devvarman and Yuki Bhambri on the opening day of the play-off tie on Friday.

"For us it is very important to have someone like Zimon. We learnt from him how to adjust to different situations, help us tide over difficult situations. It's good to be part of a team that has Zimonjic," Lajovic, who is the highest-ranked player in the tie at number 61, said.

The 107th-ranked Krajinovic admitted that conditions were demanding in Bangalore.

"It is not easy to play in high altitude, but we came here six days before and it has helped. We have been preparing and will be ready for the tie," he said.

Zimonjic is the senior-most player in the Serbian side in the absence of world number one Novak Djokovic.

Captain Bogdan Obradovic also posed confidence in Lajovic and Krajinovic, saying they had enough fire and motivation to propel the side to the World Group.

"If you do not have experience, then you have fire and motivation, and these two youngsters have it in them to propel the team for a victory," Obradovic told reporters after the practice session at KSLTA Stadium here.

Obradovic said it is up to them to utilise the opportunity and give their best at a big stage.

"It is up to them to know how much they can give, it is a big tournament. The youngsters have an opportunity to improve under such situation. It is going to be exciting for us and expect to play good tennis," he added.

Asked to react on Somdev Devvarman's comment that India have an edge in the doubles, Obradovic said his doubles players too are quite strong.

"Doubles event is crucial for both the teams. However, our doubles players had beaten Bryan Brothers in the past, which means we are ready for beating any team," he said.

"Still our doubles players have to play and score points, but our players are confident. We are going to be ready for it, but we have to respect the Indian team because they had so many great teams wherein the likes of (Mahesh) Bhupathi and Leander (Paes) in the past," he added.

Devvarman had said yesterday that doubles point was India's best chance and winning a point on the first day, can make things interesting.
