Ahmedabad: Four persons were injured on Monday when the bodyguard of BJP MLA and candidate from Sahera in Panchmahal district, Jetha Bharwad, opened fire in Tarsang village after some stones were pelted at the leader.

"When Bharwad reached Tarsang village, some stones were pelted at him following which his commando opened 8-10 rounds of fire, injuring four persons. They all are out of danger now," said Panchmahal Superintendent of Police Sachin Badshah.

Tarsang village is around 165 kms from Ahmedabad.

Police will ascertain what led to the firing and who actually started the stone pelting in Tarsang, which is the native of Congress candidate Takhatsingh Solanki.

Bharwad also sustained some injuries on his head in the stone pelting and has been admitted to a hospital in Godhra town.

"Attack on Jethabhai is the conspiracy of the Congress party which is desperate to stop the tide of high voting which has continued in the second phase too. Congress has realised its defeat in this high voter turnout," alleged BJP general secretary Vijay Rupani.

Solanki, who is pitted against Bharwad on Sahera seat has alleged that Bharwad had come to his village for bogus voting and that he staged the stone pelting.

"It was pre-planned by Jetha Bharwad so that he can terrorise voters of my village and resort to bogus voting. Otherwise, he has no business to enter my village at the time of voting," alleged Solanki.
