Modi not acceptable to country as PM candidate: Medha Patkar

Social activist Medha Patkar said Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was not acceptable to country as a Prime Ministerial candidate as debate raged on the BJP leader`s possible national ambitions.

Bangalore: Social activist Medha Patkar said on Thursday Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi was not acceptable to the country as a Prime Ministerial candidate as debate raged on the BJP leader`s possible national ambitions.
"I don`t think Modi is acceptable to this country as a candidate for the Prime Minister. He is not even acceptable to all in the BJP", she told PTI here. Patkar, here to attend a public meeting, was asked if Modi, who performed a hat-trick today leading the BJP to power in Gujarat for the third time in a row, is a Prime Ministerial material. In general terms, she also expressed against political parties projecting their Prime Ministerial candidate, and said the leader should be chosen democratically after election results. "Political parties are not democratic". On Modi`s third consecutive victory, she said electoral politics does not necessarily reflect the commitment of persons and parties to the constitutional framework of development, although they all talk about `vikas` as their `mantra`. "Whether it`s development in the frame-work of constitution...That answer is not coming up", she added. Patkar, National Alliance of People`s Movement chief, said the Narmada struggle will go on. "We have already exposed Narmada Sardar Sarovar Project", she said, adding, a judicial commission of inquiry is probing corruption charges in this context in Madhya Pradesh. PTI
