Record high of 94.08 pc votes registered from HP's Nalagarh

Shimla: For the first time in electoral history of Himachal Pradesh, a record high of 94.08 per cent polling was registered on Sunday from Nalagarh constituency while ten others crossed the 80 per cent mark.

Nalagarh constituency in Solan district recorded the highest ever polling of 94.08 per cent while the adjoining Doon constituency in the same district recorded 89.36 per cent.

The Nahan constituency in Sirmaur district polled 85.22 per cent votes, followed by Seraj in Mandi district (84.72 percent), Banjjar in Kullu district (82.49 per cent), Sri Naina Devi in Bilaspur district (84.36 per cent), Shillai and Paonta Sahib in Sirmaur district with 82.36 and 82.15 per cent respectively.

Shimla (Urban) recorded the lowest polling with 58.77 per cent votes registered, followed by Shimla (Rural) with 59.23 per cent and Kusumpti with 60.11 per cent.

The other constituencies which polled less than 70 per cent votes included Dehra (69.22 per cent), Jaisinghpur and Baijnath (64.23 per cent), Solan (69.85 per cent), Badsar (68.99 per cent), Hamirpur (68.63 per cent), Rohroo (68.80 per cent) and Bhoranj (65.32 per cent).

Thirty three constituencies, ten in Mandi district, five each in Sirmaur, Una and Chamba and four each in Bilaspur and Kullu districts, polled more than 70 per cent votes.

A record 74.62 per cent of the 46 lakh voters in Himachal Pradesh today exercised their franchise in the Assembly election where ruling BJP and Congress are locked in a virtual straight contest.
