Panaji: Average asset of Congress MLAs is five times more than that of BJP legislators who contested 2007 election in Goa, figures released by an NGO revealed on Wednesday.

As per the affidavits filed during 2007 polls, the average asset per MLA in Goa is Rs 4.25 crore.

Records available with the Election Commission indicate that "amongst major parties", the average asset per MLA of ruling Congress is Rs 3.33 crore, while for main Opposition BJP it is Rs 71 lakh.

Association for Democratic Reforms, an NGO working for voters education, has based their findings on the affidavits filed by various candidates for 2007 Goa polls.

ADR State Coordinator Bhaskar Assoldekar said affidavits of all the 40 MLAs was analysed by the NGO.

"It was revealed that 30 per cent of MLAs had not furnished their Permanent Account Number (PAN) card details," he said.

The affidavits revealed that Education Minister Atanasio Monserratte is the richest among the legislators with assets valued at Rs 15 crore, followed by Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao (Rs 9 crore) and Health Minister Vishwajit Rane (Rs 7 crore).
