Panaji: The two Communist parties will jointly contest seven seats in the Goa assembly elections which are scheduled to be held on March 3.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) would contest five seats while its ally CPI(M) two seats, CPI?s state general secretary Christopher Fonseca told reporters today.

CPI has decided to field its candidate in Santa Cruz, Taleigao, Panjim, Priol and Sankhalim constituencies while CPI(M) would put up candidates in Sanvordem and Mayem constituencies.

Fonseca said that the CPI has been associated with Goa even before its liberation.

"There are various issues that could be solved only if you have proper representation in the legislative assembly," he said.

The CPI has listed mega housing projects, scarcity of power and water supply to industrial units, anti-labour policies of industries, improper sports facilities as some of the issues on which to contest elections.

The party has also kept its option open to support the like-minded candidates in those constituencies, where both parties were not contesting, Fonseca said.
