Panaji: Former executive member of Goa Cricket Association, Shekhar Salkar, has approached the Election Commission over the alleged failure of local election officers to act against Dayanand Narvekar, Association president and a Congress legislator.

Salkar, who had earlier filed complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer here, has now sent a letter to EC in Delhi. According to him, there was enough evidence to hold that Narvekar was guilty of violation of code of conduct, but local officers were reluctant to act.

Salkar has accused Narvekar of trying to entice voters by distributing free cricket kits and cheques through GCA ahead of the March 3 Assembly polls.

"Unfortunately, the office of Chief Electoral Officer in Goa has not reverted back to me (on the complaint)," Salkar has said in the letter.

"I do realise that your office is burdened by electioneering in five states...In that case you should consider countermanding the election for the Aldona constituency in Goa (from where Narvekar is expected to contest)," it demands.

The State office of EC had conducted inquiry into Salkar's complaint. But it did not make much progress after inquiry officer's report was labelled as "not satisfactory" by Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Narayan Navti.
