Imphal: Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh on Tuesday brought the Congress back to power in Manipur for a third consecutive time, winning a simple majority in the 60-member Assembly.

The ruling party has won all the 42 constituencies, whereas the Manipur Peoples Party-led alliance has won only one seat.

Others have won 17 seats. The victors among them include the Naga Peoples Front (NPF), the Trinamool Congress (TMC), the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and the Manipur State Congress Party.

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh defeated his nearest rival O Indira of BJP in Thoubal Assembly constituency by over 10,000 votes.

State Congress chief Gaikhangam won the prestigious Nungba seat defeating Manipur State Congress Party candidate Admi Panmei by over 3,000 votes.

Works Minister K Ranjit was leading from Sugnu seat in Thoubal district.

Congress candidate and Social Welfare Minister N Loken won the Nambol seat defeating former Union sports minister Th Chaoba Singh of Manipur Peoples Party by over 900 votes.

Forest Minister and Congress candidate, Th Debendra Singh won the Jiribam seat defeating A Biren of Trinamool Congress by over 2000 votes.

Congress candidate Kh Debendra won the Sekmai seat defeating TMC nominee Kh Dingo Singh by over 600 votes, while Abdul Nasir of Congress won the Lilong seat defeating TMC nominee Md Alau.

LJP candidate Karam Shyam defeated veteran Manipur Peoples Party leader O Joy in the prestigious Langthabal Assembly seat by over 700 votes.

Congress candidate in Tipaimukh constituency, Dr Chaltonlien Amo won defeating TMC's Lalumkhum Fimate.

In other results, Trinamool Congress nominee Kh Joykishang won the prestigious Thangmeiband Assembly seat defeating his nearest Congress rival Jotin Waikhom by over 300 votes. Former chief minister and NCP president Radhabinod Koijam stood third.

Trinamool Congress candidate K Sarat Singh won the Kongthoujam Assembly seat defeating Congress nominee S Ranjan by over 500 votes.

Congress candidate and wife of chief minister O Landhoni won the Khangabok seat defeating Manipur Peoples Party nominee L Jatra by over 200 votes.

Naga People's Front nominee Daikho defeated his nearest Congress rival P T Arhai by over 2000 votes in the Mao Assembly constituency.

Congress leader and Education minister D D Thaisi was defeated by Naga People's Front candidate Alexandar Pou by 7,000 votes in Karong Assembly constituency.

Ahead of the results, 11 non-Congress parties had formed the Peoples Democratic Alliance (PDA). These parties include Trinamool Congress, CPI, Manipur State Congress Party, National Peoples Party, Lok Jansakti Party, NCP, Manipur People's Party, JD(U), CPI(M), Naga People's Front and BJP.
