Imphal: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday said her party would recommend removal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA) from Manipur if it is voted to power in the poll-bound state. "The Trinamool Congress would recommend removal of the AFSPA from the state which was imposed in September, 1980, if it wins the state assembly election," the West Bengal chief minister told a public meeting here in support of her party candidates. "We were able to defeat the Left Front government which was ruling West Bengal for 34 years and I hope the Trinamool Congress would also come to power in Manipur and would give you a clean and honest government," she said.
Banerjee also said that the Trinamool Congress would increase the maternity leave of the women employees of the state government.
The Trinamool Congress, part of the UPA coalition at the Centre, is contesting 47 seats in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. PTI
