Chandigarh: Punjab Congress President Amarinder Singh on Thursday took a pot shot at Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for allegedly failing to remember his correct age.

When asked to comment on Badal mentioning his age as 84 years in his nomination paper filed as SAD candidate from his traditional Lambi constituency, Amarinder alleged, "If he does not correctly recall what his exact age is, then how can he run the affairs of Punjab."

"If according to the reports Badal had in 2007 (Assembly polls) stated that he was 76 years old, then how can he be 84 now...we will find out from the Election Department what Badal's exact age is, whether it is 82, 88 or 90," Amarinder said.

Meanwhile, Badal, during his campaigning, said he did not remember having made such a goof up and added it could have been because of a clerical mistake.

Punjab's Special Chief Electoral Officer, Usha R Sharma said that whatever age the contesting candidate gives while filing nomination has to be taken on its face value.

The nomination cannot be rejected, she said when reporters asked her about the alleged discrepancy.
