Chandigarh: A day after Punjab witnessed an all-time high voter turnout of over 78 per cent for the assembly election, top leaders on Tuesday met trusted aides and party workers thanking them for their overwhelming support.

There was no time to relax for some leaders who had criss-crossed the state's length and breadth in a month-long no-holds-barred election campaign.

An early riser, 84-year-old Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal started his day in his home constituency Lambi from where he sought re-election.

The SAD patriarch met his supporters and talked to his confidants expressing confidence that the SAD-BJP would return to power in the state, one of his aides told PTI.

Later, he went to Sirsa, the home constituency of his close friend and Haryana's former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, to attend a programme there.

Badal's son and SAD President, Sukhbir Singh Badal, left for Delhi yesterday.

He will be spending some time there. His MP-wife Harsimrat Kaur, who was also actively involved in party's campaigning, will be with him.

Punjab Congress chief Amarinder Singh, a Chief Ministerial aspirant, there was no time to rest as he left the state for electioneering in Uttar Pradesh.

"There is no time for any rest for Captain Sahab. He will be busy campaigning in Uttar Pradesh. He also has to draw up plans for his own state where we are confident of coming back to power," an Amarinder's aide said.
