Chandigarh: In a bid to ensure enhanced participation of women electors on polling day in Punjab, special arrangements, including deployment of women polling officers, have been made by the election authorities.

"The EC has already issued guidelines to take special care of the aged, pregnant women, physically challenged and young mothers carrying small children to enable them cast their vote comfortably," Special Chief Electoral Officer Usha R Sharma said on Friday.

Facilities like entry of two female candidates at a time, women polling officers, separate polling stations in same building for men and women are among the steps introduced to enhance the participation of women electors.

Sharma said that 55 general observers, 43 expenditure observers and 27 police observers have already reached at different areas in Punjab for the polling on January 30.

Meanwhile, the commission has received 1350 complaints of alleged violations of model code of conduct from across the state, out of which 660 complaints have been disposed of.
