Bahraich (UP): Congress has changed its nominees in two seats in Uttar Pradesh, replacing the candidates with their wives after they were convicted in a case of atrocity.

BSP legislator Madhuri Verma today filed her nomination papers from Nanpara seat as a Congress candidate replacing her husband, Dileep Verma, while Reeta Verma will now contest from Shravasti seat in place of her husband Kuldeep Verma, Congress sources said.

Dileep and Kuldeep were convicted by a local court in a case of atrocity against a Dalit constable.

The two have appealed to the High Court, but have not got any relief yet.

Madhuri was elected as a member of the legislative council last year, after she defeated Congress' candidate in the elections. Her tenure as MLC would expire in 2016.
