New Delhi, Nov 25: Troops from the Indian and
Mongolian armies are exercising counter-insurgency manoeuvres
at a 14-day camp in Vairangte-based training school in
Mizoram.
Defence Ministry said the exercise was part of the
continuing army-to-army relations between the two countries
and this was the fourth in the series of exercise and the
second on Indian soil.
A total of 30 Mongolian and 70 Indian army troops are
attending the exercise that started on November 17. "The
Mongolian side is led by a Major General and there is a
Colonel-rank officer too in the team," a source said.
Two earlier exercises were held in Mongolia twice and
the third in Vairangate's Counter Insurgency and Jungle
Warfare School (CIJWS).
"The focus of this and the previously held exercises have
been on counter insurgency and counter terrorism," the source
said.
The CIJWS of the Indian Army provides specialised
training to Indian troops in dealing with insurgency and
terrorists.
The school has been hosting a number of foreign armed
forces, who wanted to exercise with India and learn from its
rich experience of fighting insurgency for over six decades in
the North-east and three decades in Jammu and Kashmir.
