Mumbai, Jan 01: Maharastra State Tourism Minister
Vijaysinh Mohite Patil on Thursday said that the number of foreign
tourists visiting the state has declined by around 60 per cent
following the November 26 Mumbai terror attacks.
"Foreign tourists constitute around one per cent of the
total tourist inflow in the state. Their number has dropped by
at least 60 per cent after the terror attacks," the minister
told reporters at Mantralaya.
Besides Mumbai, destinations like Ajanta and Ellora caves
and historic city of Pune have seen a drastic fall in the
number of foreign tourists, Patil said.
A meeting of tour operators and senior officials would be
held soon to discuss measures to restore tourist traffic, the
minister said.
It would dwell on confidence-building measures to attract
more foreign tourist, he added.
As part of beefed up security after the attacks,
sufficient security has been provided to the Deccan Odyssey
luxury trains and curbs have been imposed on boats going in
the night to the Elephanta caves near Mumbai, the minister
said.
Security cover has been provided to two teams of
foreign tourists after the attacks, he said.
