Over a week after its worldwide release, multiplexes and cinema halls across Uttar Pradesh started screening Prakash Jha-directed film ‘Aarakshan’ Saturday - a day after the Supreme Court revoked the state government`s ban on the movie.
Filmmaker Prakash Jha could not have asked for a better Friday. The news of his film ‘Aarakshan’ minting Rs.58.5 crore worldwide within its first week had not even sunk in when the Supreme Court lifted the ban on the film`s release in Uttar Pradesh.
The Punjab and Andhra Pradesh governments have cleared filmmaker Prakash Jha`s ‘Aarakshan’ for screening and revoked the statewide ban they imposed on it. The screening of the film started in the two states Saturday afternoon.
Super30 founder and math wizard whose help was sought by film-maker Prakash Jha to direct Amitabh Bachchan and Saif Ali Khan for the film `Aarakshan`, today said there was nothing objectionable in the movie.
The Supreme Court will hear Tuesday a petition by film producer and director Prakash Jha seeking the quashing of the orders by the Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, and Punjab governments banning or suspending screening of his film "Aarakshan" in these states.
