The situation in troubled Baksa district is improving and the indefinite curfew was relaxed during daytime on Tuesday while and one more person was arrested in connection with the kidnap and killing of four persons.
The Army remained on stand by and indefinite curfew, clamped since the kidnap and killing of of four persons by suspected militants, remained in force for the third day in Assam`s Baksa district as three persons were arrested in connection with the crime on Monday.
The relatives of the victims, who had refused to perform the last rites till Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi visits to Nankekhadrabari area, on Sunday buried the dead, following assurance from a representative of the state government.
Assam violence — Probe into the killing of 32 civilians in the Assam`s Bodo-majority districts was handed over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday as 22 people were arrested in connection with the violence.
With the death toll rising in Assam, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday slammed the Congress government in the northeastern state as well as at the Centre for failing to take action to curb violence.
