A large number of villagers and family members of those killed in firing yesterday over a land dispute, on Saturday held a protest outside a hospital here against the police for their alleged failure in taking action against accused.
Locals along with family members of a woman, who died allegedly in a dowry case, on Tuesday blocked a national highway for more than four hours protesting against the laxity of local police in the matter.
Yet another case of indiscipline has hit the Army with a Colonel of the National Cadet Corps being allegedly assaulted by jawans in Batala in Punjab following which a court of inquiry (COI) has been ordered into the matter.
No untoward incident was reported
as calm returned to the town, which recently witnessed clashes
over publication of a picture of Jesus Christ, prompting the
district administration to lift the night curfew also.
Curfew remained in force here on Sunday, a day after two communities clashed and indulged in vandalising public property over publication of a picture of Jesus Christ allegedly in an objectionable manner.
