Passing the civic polls test, Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress on Tuesday won four of the six municipalities that went to polls on Sunday.
The CPI(M) admitted some element of "alienation" and "anger" worked behind its poll drubbing.
Polling was held in three districts - Howrah, Hooghly and East Midnapore - and parts of Burdwan.
Voting came to an end in 63 constituencies in the fourth phase of WB polls with 84.8% polling recorded.

Jadavpur constituency in South 24 Parganas district which
will go to polls on April 27 in the third phase of Assembly
Elections in West Bengal.
Bhattacharjee said Mamata`s Railway Ministry was being run in a whimsical manner.
