A local court in Jagatsinghpur has sentenced the proprietor of a private health institute to two years of rigorous imprisonment for violating bio-medical waste rules.
Showcause notices have been issued to 3,585 defaulting health care facilities and common bio-medical waste treatment facilities across the country for violating norms related to handling of bio-medical waste.
Most of the Delhi hospitals, including the premier AIIMS, do not comply with the rules for collection and disposal of bio-medical waste, posing a serious threat to human health and environment.
