Mizoram government has disbursed money under rehabilitation and resettlement package to all the 173 Bru families who returned to Mizoram from six relief camps in neighbouring North Tripura during June 17 to 21 last year.
At least 227 Brus, including 58 children, belonging to 44 families returned to Mizoram from Tripura on the third day of the sixth phase of repatriation on Thursday, state home department officials said.
Bru refugees in Tripura should be given one last chance of returning to Mizoram, failing which they would forfeit the chance of returning to the state, Mizo and Bru civil societies at Mamit district have demanded.
The 9th phase of repatriation of the
displaced Bru/Reangs from Mizoram would begin tomorrow from
Naisinghpara evacuee camp in Kanchanpur sub-division of North
Tripura district, official sources said on Thursday.
The third phase of repatriation of
Bru refugees from six relief camps in North Tripura district
that was scheduled to begin from on Tuesday, has been deferred due
to a difference of opinion about the age limit of children.
The Centre has sanctioned Rs 9.7
crore for resumption of repatriation of Bru refugees from
Tripura relief camps but the money was yet to be credited in
Mizoram government`s account, official sources said here
