The government will consider a proposal for the appointment of a four-star officer as the permanent chairman of Chiefs of Staffs Committee who would be looking after the joint issues of the three armed forces.
The Cabinet Committee on
Security (CCS) on Thursday is understood to have discussed the
induction of the indigenously-produced and developed Akash
surface to air missile defence system into the Indian Army.
Notwithstanding the opposition from
the Army and the Defence Ministry, the amendments to the
controversial AFSPA, aimed at making
it "more humane", are likely to be placed soon before the
highest govt body on security.
