The year 2013 was one of the driest in Cherrapunjee (renamed Sohra) -- known as one of the wettest places on the earth -- in Meghalaya compared to the last 35 years.
Cherrapunjee is on the edge of a plateau on the southern slopes in the East Khasi Hills district.
Meghalaya does not have a rail
link at present but around 125 years ago people from this
quaint hill-station made memorable journeys on one of the most
romantic mountain railways of the world.
A four-day Rain Rock festival
kicked-off to a colourful start in Cherrapunjee, with a view
to give impetus to tourism in the world`s wettest place.
