Asserting that the Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal will not allow any division of Darjeeling, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Sunday said it is bringing in development in the hills with special packages.
Neither Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee nor Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) chief Bimal Gurung will contest the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, but it will be a battle royale between the two in the hills torn by the statehood demand.
As Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee left for a five-day visit to north Bengal and to also participate in the first Trinamool Congress rally in Darjeeling, the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) Tuesday questioned her party`s intentions behind organising the programme.
The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, spearheading an agitation for a separate state in the Darjeeling hills, on Tuesday said it would go in for an `intense` agitation from October 20, asking people to be ready for it.
An all-party meeting called by the GJM is being held in the Darjeeling hills, with the TMC, CPI(M), Congress and GNLF staying away, as the indefinite bandh entered the 10th day on Monday, paralysing normal life.
