Migratory birds have started arriving at the Point Calimere sanctuary on Vedaranyam coast here with authorities taking extensive measures to ensure their protection following a steady decline in the number of winged visitors.
Mumbaikars Saturday thronged to Sewri Jetty to catch a glimpse of nearly 15,000 migratory flamingos foraging for food on the mudflats.
As many as 64 lesser Flamingos were stated to be poached on December 29.
A preening oil which flamingos use to waterproof their feathers also brightens them up, says a new study.
Ever wondered why flamingos are often seen standing on one leg? Well, scientists believe that the posture might be used by birds to conserve body heat.
