Calling the working agreement between Hockey India and the Indian Hockey Federation a "bizarre live-in relationship", IOA acting President Vijay Kumar Malhotra said two federations for one discipline will never be accepted.
The government issued an ultimatum to Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation to merge by July 25, failing which the Sports Ministry would take a decision on its own and inform the Supreme Court about it.
After squabbling for long over who should run the game in the country, Hockey India and Indian Hockey Federation appeared to be heading towards a merger with both the federations agreeing "in principle" to form a unified body.
The Sports Ministry on Monday shot another letter to the Indian Hockey Federation, seeking clarification on its merger with IWHF and the election process for its office bearers before going into polls on Sunday.
With the Indian Hockey Federation scheduled to conduct its polls on October 3, the Sports Ministry has reminded the KPS Gill-led body to abide by the governments guidelines to be recognised as a National Sports Federation.
